Chelsea are considering a shock bid to bring Arjen Robben back to Stamford Bridge and they will offer Bayern Munich Florent Malouda to seal the deal.

Blues boss Andre-Villas Boas is eager to add some flair in wide areas of his team and he recently had a £17.5m bid rejected for Porto winger Alvaro Pereira, with the Primeira Liga champions insisting the Uruguayan was not for sale.

The Portuguese tactician is now considering his options and has turned his attention to former Blue Arjen Robben.

Villas-Boas left Malouda out of his starting line-up for Chelsea’s first home game of the season but he brought him on in the first half – and was rewarded as the Frenchman netted the winner against West Brom.

But it is understood the former Porto chief is not keen on the 31-year-old attacker, who he believes is past his best.

Italian giants Juventus are understood to have enquired into the availability of Malouda earlier this week, but their interest could be in vain if Villas-Boas uses the Frenchman as bait to land Robben.

Having brought in Juan Mata from Valencia to help add pace and a direct threat on the wing, one would wonder if Andre Villas-Boas would be looking to bring in another out and out winger but this source seems to think they are keen on Bayern Munich wide man Arjen Robben, who was of course a big success at the West London club between 2004 and 2007.

Since leaving Stamford Bridge the Dutch winger had an up and down time at the Bernabeu, finding himself in and out of the starting line up, before making a hugely successful move to Bayern Munich. In his first season at the Allianz Arena the 27 year old netted 23 goals and helped the Bavarian side to the Bundesliga title and a Champions League Final berth.

His second season was marred by injury but his hot scoring streak continued with the former PSV man scoring 13 goals in 17 matches. The winger has reportedly stated that the one club he would consider leaving Bayern Munich for was Barcelona but perhaps a move back to Chelsea would appeal to the tricky winger?

Villas-Boas may well consider offloading Florent Malouda but would offering the French international in part exchange really tempt Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes? Probably not.

Having sold Yuri Zhirkov and reportedly set to sell Yossi Benayoun, there could be a need to beef up wide options but clearly as well as Juan Mata the Premier League title challengers also have the likes of Salomon Kalou, Nicolas Anelka and Daniel Sturridge who can play out wide but clearly none of this trio are out and out wingers.

Robben notched up 103 appearances during his spell at Chelsea, netting 19 goals and two Premier League titles. Indeed the talented Dutch international has won titles in four countries and still has a lot to offer, hence it being unlikely Bayern Munich would entertain offers for his services.
